The Benefits Of Drinking Milk After A Workout

We all know the importance of staying hydrated and drinking plenty of water. But milk can actually be much better at keeping your body hydrated for longer!

Milk is absorbed into the bloodstream more gradually than water or sports drinks, so keeps hydrating the body for longer. A recent study by Professor Alice Roberts from University of Birmingham showed that drinking milk after exercising was the most effective way to stay hydrated.  And the benefits don’t stop there.

Milk naturally contains electrolytes like sodium and potassium, which are lost during perspiration.  And for those working out to improve their muscle definition, milk has the high quality protein needed for muscle development, as well as calcium for bone strength.

When I can find it, I buy unpasteurised milk, as I prefer the taste!  It also contains vital nutrients otherwise lost during the pasteurisation process.

So next time you need a post workout drink, reach for a glass of milk.  And for an added energy boost, perhaps try a couple of squares of high quality milk chocolate too!
